Who we are
Jagger is operated by BeatPlus B.V., registered in the Netherlands under company number 81978367, Lange Vijverberg 4-5, 2513 AC The Hague, the Netherlands. BeatPlus B.V. is responsible (the "controller") for your personal data. This statement explains what data we collect, why we collect it and what we do with it. Questions or requests: support@jaggerapp.com.
Why we care about privacy
As an opinion rewards company, your trust is critical to us. We designed our app with privacy in mind, in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act and other applicable privacy laws.
Our Privacy Principles
- Data minimisation. We only ask for the data we need, and we pseudonymise or anonymise it as soon as possible. Our clients only receive aggregated results that cannot be traced to you.
- Privacy by design. We take privacy into account from the design stage onwards.
- Transparency. We explain which data we collect, why, and what it means for you.
- Consent. We ask your permission before we recognise media around you or on your phone, and before we use your location, app usage or advertising data. Media Research, location, app usage and advertising measurement are separate choices, and you can change your mind at any time. We never make audio recordings.
Who can use Jagger
You must be 18 or older to use Jagger.
Information you give us
When you sign up, we ask for your email address, phone number, first name, age, gender and postcode. You can choose to tell us more, such as your occupation, education, household, shopping role, how you commute and your income range. We also collect your survey answers and the information needed to give you rewards.
We use this to run your account, verify your phone number and payouts by text message, send you rewards, invite you to surveys that suit you, and build a research profile for the market research we do for our clients. The legal basis is the agreement you enter into when you sign up.
Content testing
If you turn on Media Research (Audio Content Recognition)
With your permission, we recognise which TV, radio, video, audio and advertising content you are exposed to. When you turn on Media Research, it covers both of the following:
- Media playing around you. If you allow microphone access, the app recognises audio from TV, radio and other media playing near your phone.
- Media playing on your phone itself. On supported devices, the app also recognises audio from media you play on your phone while you use headphones or earbuds. This option never captures phone calls, video calls or what is shown on your screen.
In both cases, sound is converted on your phone straight away into an audio fingerprint: a code that cannot be turned back into sound. Audio is never stored, not even on your phone, and never sent to us. No one can listen to your conversations. We only compare fingerprints with our database of known content and advertising, and keep the result. A result looks like this:
user_id: 1234, matched_content: ABC radio ad, timestamp: 6:13 PM
The app shows clearly when Media Research is on, and you can turn it off at any time.
We use these results to invite you to relevant surveys, and for the market research we do for our clients, who only receive aggregated, anonymised results. The legal basis is your explicit consent. You can withdraw it at any time by turning off Media Research in the app. For media around you, you can also turn off microphone access in your phone settings.
If you allow us to use your location
With your explicit consent, we collect location (GPS) data to understand which shops and restaurant chains you visit and which outdoor advertising you pass. We use this for relevant surveys and for market research for our clients, who only receive aggregated, anonymised results. You can withdraw your consent at any time by turning off location access for the app in your phone settings.
If you allow us to see which apps you use
If you allow us to measure digital advertising
Taking part without Media Research or location
Notifications
With your permission, we send you notifications about new surveys and rewards. You can turn them off at any time in your phone settings.
Preventing fraud
To prevent fraud and duplicate accounts, we use device security checks provided by Apple and Google, and we keep an identifier of your device. After you delete your account, we keep this identifier for up to 90 days, so the same device cannot register again during that time. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping our panel honest.
Prize draws
If you win a prize draw, we publish your first name and your town or city on the winners list.
Sign in with Apple or Google
If you sign in with Apple, you can use Hide My Email. We then only receive your name and a random email address that forwards to your own. If you sign in with Google, we receive the name and email address of your Google account.
Who we share your data with
We never sell your personal data. We never share data that identifies you with our clients, advertisers or advertising networks. They only receive aggregated, anonymised results. That is also why there is no "Do not sell my personal information" link: there is nothing to opt out of.
Our sister company Beatgrid Media B.V. runs media research surveys. We may invite you to take part in them. To do so, we share only the information needed to select the right survey for you, never your name, email address or phone number. Whether you take part is always your choice.
We use these service providers, who only process your data on our instructions and under a data processing agreement:
- Amazon Web Services: hosting and verification text messages
- Tango: delivering gift cards and other rewards
- Alchemer: running surveys
- Zendesk: our help center and support tickets
- Google: website analytics
- Anthropic: the AI assistant in our in-app support chat
When you chat with our support assistant, we always tell you that it is an AI assistant.
We may also share data when the law requires it or to prevent fraud.
Where we store your data and for how long
We store your data with Amazon Web Services, in the region where we collect it. Some of our service providers are based outside the European Economic Area. In that case we use the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework to protect your data.
We automatically delete your personal data after two years. If you ask us to delete it earlier, we do so within 90 days. Aggregated, anonymised data that no longer identifies you may be kept longer.
How else we use your information
We also use your information to improve our surveys and the app, to tell you about changes to Jagger, and to email you about goods and services that may interest you. The legal basis is our legitimate interest. You can object at any time, and every marketing email has an unsubscribe link.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you, and know why we use it and who we share it with.
- Correct or complete your data.
- Have your data deleted.
- Restrict how we use your data, for example while we check whether it is correct.
- Receive the data you gave us in a digital file, and transfer it to another organisation.
- Object to the use of your data based on our legitimate interest, including direct marketing.
- Withdraw your consent at any time. This does not affect what we did before you withdrew it.
- Nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or are unable to (India).
We build a research profile from your answers to select surveys for you. We never make decisions about you based only on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects.
To delete your account and data, use "Delete account" in the app, or email us. For any other request, email support@jaggerapp.com. We answer within one month. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or your local data protection authority. In India, you can first raise a grievance with us and then with the Data Protection Board of India.
